The kids and I buried Jake on Memorial Day.  We covered his body with all the ribbons he’d won while competing in field trials as a young dog, placing his one blue ribbon over his heart.  It’s hard saying goodbye to a member of the family, but we sent him off in fine fashion.  A fitting tribute and celebration of a life well lived.

Blackwater Jacob Maccabee (his registered AKC name) was the classic Lab…  strong in body, yet gentle in spirit, bold in temperament, yet well mannered, stylish and always the solid companion.

Jake had the unenviable task of replacing Daniel (my old Golden Retriever) a mere 6 months after Daniel’s death, but he measured up well.  He was devoted to and watched over the kids as they grew through childhood into young adults.

Just a few months shy of his 14th birthday, Jake enjoyed a rich life.   His presence in our lives will be missed.  Rest well my dear friend.
